The catalyst for me making this site was quite literally just "making websites is ridiculously fun and I can be an anorak about it and also all the stuff I put on it".
This site is entirely hand-written, no templates no site-builder no nothing. I started with an empty html file, entered a trance state for about a week and hey presto.
I'm incredibly coder brained, so I endeavour to make everything "efficient" by minimising the CSS rules I use and commenting the site code to an unnecessary degree. But really, who will be laughing if I ever come back after a year or so away? This is all very ironic for me to say considering my actual programming with JavaScript, a language I vaguely understand, leaves a lot to be desired.
While I would never recommend it, the site is mobile compatible with a media query all set up to shift things around. It certainly isn't perfect, or great for that matter. I know that the gallery is pretty pathetic to view in that state and I should probably tweak it, but I'm not averse to making my site less palatable to psychopaths who browse NeoCities on their phone.
I'd argue my only "philosophy" when it comes to web design is ensuring the site is entirely self-contained. For the most part I have achieved this, almost nothing is hot linked from off-site, but I won't be entirely immune to link rot. Obviously, buttons to other sites or anything on the web surfing page is at risk of vanishing into a puff of smoke at any moment, however none of that could break the site itself.
If you'd like to add my button to your site you can find it on the homepage, I highly recommend not hotlinking the image because I shift files around like there's no tomorrow.
